A Retirement of Mirrors to Young Men at the Star Cup

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) held a dance workshop with children and youth at Diablitos de Espejos as part of the training programme organized by the New Generation Movement (MNG).

The day began with the production of a documentary about the party of Corpus Christi de Escobal, province of Colón, where the steps of the dancers, the dresser and the performance of the dance were shown.

Marcia Rodriguez, a collaborator at the Cultural Heritage Section, was charged with teaching children and youth at the football clubs at the El Chorrillo, Calidonia and Santa Ana Stars Cup, some of the steps that dailies make during their dance.

According to Marcia Rodriguez, "this dance of the children of Escobal's mirrors differs from others because it has more than 300 steps and also has music and dialogues."

For his part, Antonio Mendoza, coordinator of MNG's community projects, emphasized that "the idea of this workshop is to sensitiarize the community and authorities about the need to design projects that have an impact on the community from childhood and that have been reflected in the family. It's through the culture that you make that change.

Emma Gómez, coordinator of Intangible Cultural Heritage (PCI), explained that "the Minister of Culture responded with this activity, the request of the Government of Panama, to offer workshops and cultural activities to children and youth sportsmen from the neighborhoods, and that's why we shared the dance of Diablitos de Espejos de Escobal, currently also practised at Curundú, Panama, and at Colón, and that forms part of Panama's inscriptions declared as Inmaterial Cultural Heritage of Humanity."
