MiCultura PRIORITY SAFETY AFROANTILLANO

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) at a virtual meeting with members of the Society of Friends of the Afro-Antillean Museum of Panama (SAMAAP) expressed its commitment to ensuring the safety and content of this property.

Anayansi Chichaca national director of Museums at MiCultura explained that some of the fence around the Afro-Antillano Museum has been constantly vandalised and that's why it was decided to complete it with concrete blocks in the existing spaces where metal sections were.

He noted that the mural designed by the painter, Marta Noemi Noriega, was affected in the process but that at the next stage we have been planning to maintain the mural and restore it to the affected parties, but if it isn't so, because the artist lives outside the country, other artists could be called for a new design, Chichaco explained.

What's more important, however, is that "the ministry chose the safety and its contents" information that was shared with SAMAAP and that there's also a commitment to keep the painting in its integrity.

At the meeting, Minister Giselle González Villarrué reiterated to the members of SAMAAP the commitment to work together to improve more and more the museum and to continue to be open to the public by showing to visitors the culture and contribution of the Afro-Semitic community to the development of the country
