PANAMA FAMALIZA ADHESION TO THE TREATY OF BEIJING

The Deputy Minister of Culture, (My Culture) Gabriel González, representing the entity, participated in an act of physical depository of Panama's accession to the Treaty of Beijing that was held at the Forum of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held in Dominican Republic.

Panama's accession to the Beijing treaty concerning the protection of audiovisual interpretations and executions began with Panama's accession on June 24, 2012 and later with its ratification at the National Assembly by Act 234 of December 30, 2021.

The Instrument of Accession was later established on January 17 this year with the signing of the Spanish Chancellery of Panama to the final step that was the deposit of the treaty at the ministerial meeting held at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The Beijing treaty guarantees and recognizes the moral and property rights of audiovisual actors, interpreters and performers and at the same time improves their employment and social and economic status through increased investment in audiovisual and folklore sectors.

One of the points of the treaty states that the treaty "will contribute to safeguard the rights of performing and performing artists against unauthorized use of their interpretations and executions in audiovisual media, such as television, cinema and video."
