On his way to Bicentennial, women stand out at the Miró

The women's prints are again outstanding at the celebration of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Panama of Spain as talented writers representing the gender have been elevated with three of the categories of the Ricardo Miró 2021 National Literature Competition Award organized by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura).

The Jury chose as winners Consuelo Tomas Fitzgerald at Teatro, Ela Urriola Sanjur at Cuentos Section and Alessandra Monterrey Santiago for Poesy, while Carlos Gasnell Acuña triumphed at Novelas while the chapter of Essay was declared desert.

This year, at the Ricardo Miró National Competition, 271 literary proposals were received to compete with the established five genres poetry, tale, novel, theater and essay, the latter dedicated specifically to the Bicentennial theme.

The national director of The Arts at the Ministry of Culture, Daniel Domínguez, emphasized that these competitions "strengthen the great family of Panamanian letters and stimulate the enjoyment that means interiors with the pages of a good book."

He added that it's exciting to get to know the triumphant authors of these important prizes, especially two outstanding teachers such as Consuelo Tomas and Ela Urriola, who have been defeated in the category of Counting and Theater respectively, showing how "ladies have increasingly conquered spaces at Ricardo Miró."

"We are with two of the great authors who have already triumphed at Ricardo Miró in previous versions but with equal enthusiasm we congratulate two authors who first get prizes as Carlos Gasnell at Novela and Alessandra Monterrey at Poesia," said the national director of The Arts.

The selection of the winners was by the jury for each of the categories as Rodrigo Blanco Calderon (Venezuela), Serge Vert-Pre (Martinique) and Irina N. de Ardila (Panama), and in the genus Counting and Nadia Chonville (Martinique), Benito Taibo (Mexico), Rodolfo De Gracia (Panama), for Novela.

The Jury were Claudia Piñero (Argentina), Beatriz Camargo (Colombia), and Alondra Badano (Uruguay- Panama) while those charged with evaluating poetry were Mil Gallegos (Costa Rica), Victoria Guerrero (Peru) and Héctor Rodriguez (Panama).

Those charged with evaluating the contiguous works at Essay dedicated especially to the theme of the commemoration of the Bicentennial of Panama's Independence of Spain, were Manuel Lucena Giraldo (Spain), Rodrigo Llano (Colombia) and Guillermina De Gracia (Panama).

He also made a special reference to the novelist works "The Faithful and the voices" and "Urok," as well as the play of "The Journey."

The award of the Ricardo Miró National Competition will be held next October 28 at 7: 00 p.m. at the National Theater, a ceremony where will also be awarded the awards of the contest of Children and Youth Literature, Carlos Francisco Changmarín and Young Poetry, Gustavo Batista Cedeño.
