The Cordero Rog has new winners

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) awarded the winners of the National Music Composition Competition "Roque Cordero"in the categories Solo, Set of Camera, Chorus and Symphony Band, while the category Symphony Orchestra, remained deserted.

At a time leading up to the celebration of the Bicentennial of Panama's Spanish Independence, MiCultura led by Minister Carlos Aguilar Navarro organized and awarded each category with a total of 13.000 pat.

The winners in each of the sections were in category Solo: "Incendio" by author Samuel Ivan Emmanuel Robles Areas, Joint House Category: "Suite Caribeña" by Luis David Bonilla Domínguez, while complainant Andrés Aristóbilo Carrizo Alemán rose with his awards in two categories, with them at Coro: with his work "Invocation" and with his "Mitation about 1821 ″.

The international jury for this contest in its fourth version was integrated leading musicians with a well known track record in each of their countries as Nelly Beatriz Gómez of Argentina, Valeria Valle Martínez of Chile and Alfonso Fuentes of Puerto Rico. The prize gala will be on October 7 at a place to be announced soon.

Daniel Dominguez, national director of The Arts of MiCultura, expressed that for this version composers have been invited to create music thinking about that key date that our historic becoming as is the Bicentennial of Panama's Independence of Spain.

"Our wish from the National Direction of The Arts is that this contest that takes place with great enthusiasm for the benefit of those who exercise that beautiful art that is to compose, be one of the incentives that we have more Panamanian composers every day," Dominguez said.

On select works as winners, the Jury put forward some comments.

"Fire" touched in three times to cello submitted under the pseudonym "Virgilio," elected unanimously, drew the attention of the judges, as his score presents a writing with uses of contemporary resources that transport us to a universe with great expressive sonority. It's a beautiful work. Bravo to the composer, Nelly Gómez mentioned as representing the jury.

With regard to the Section of The House Set, Valeria Martínez stated that "Suite Caribeña" was awarded first place to the pseudonym "Retiro Bernardo," this work is for saxophone and recesses tipples, textures and rhythms as well as being very well associated with the score of what we saw from the musical text.

"Invocation" works for the feminine chorus of a camera is a work very well worked with very precise indications and the score exposes a very interesting work of voices, its timbres the use of consonant vocals, joints, intensities, moments and achieve with great originality a wonderful invocation.

Just as with the "Meditation about 1821" of the pseudonym Pancho González in Symphony Band, it was the chosen piece.

While the Symphony Orchestra category, the prize was deserted, although most of the works submitted were creatively interesting. The jury noted a number of errors of instrumentation and orchestration and a lack of essential information, stated Alfonso Fuentes, who from the jury read his decision for this section.

The Reg Cordero will give this year 13 thousand balboas in prizes distributed as follows. A unique prize will be awarded for each category, 2 thousand (Solo), 3 thousand (Camera Set), 3 thousand (Coro) and 5 thousand (Symphony Band) while the desert prize in the Symphony Orchestra category is 5 thousand balboas.

It should be noted that two pieces emphasized for an honor mention: "Fragil, rough" by Andrés Aristóclus Carrizo Alemán in the Solo category and "The habit are the words" by Daniel Fernando Oropeza Espinosa in the Coro category.
