MiCultura REALTS THE 500 YEARS FROM NATE TO TREATY

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) signed agreements with the Municipality of Natá in the province of Coclé and another with the Natá Foundation of The Knights to join efforts to conduct the activities that highlight the 500 years of construction of this colonial town on May 20.

The first convention was signed with the mayor and president of the Commission of the 500 years of Founding Natá de los Knights Tomas ArRocha with the aim of bringing together efforts to cooperate, promote, develop, disseminate, enhance and implement activities as part of this important date.

MiCultura will participate in this commemoration as a sponsor with a contribution of 50 thousand pallots that will be fully to cover some of the artistic, cultural, educational and social expenses and contents planned for 2021 and 2022 as part of the commemoration of Natah's 500.

Activities scheduled to celebrate Natá's 500 years include lectures, virtual tours, murals, a History Symposium, an Artesanal Feria and Cultural.

Folkloric presentations are also scheduled, a religious museum exhibition: The Chapel of St. John of God with technical and logistic assistance from MiCultura that will allow nationals and foreigners to visit and get to know the religious collections of St. John of God chapel and as a living religious cultural heritage.

The agreement with the Natá de los Knights Foundation represented by its President Ernestina Jaén lays down a formal framework for three years that will facilitate cooperation and understanding between the parties.

The agreement with the Natá de los Knights Foundation will have the responsibility to coordinate and organize with MiCultura technical and logistics assistance to carry out the project that will offer a religious museum display of the pieces or elements that make up the religious collection contained in the St. John's Chapel of God.

The Titular of MiCultutra, Carlos Aguilar Navarro, emphasized the signing of both conventions by stating that this place has so much impact on Panama's history, even before being a country, because Natá has a historic contribution to the construction of Panamanian nationality and to rescue that bastion is part of the work that we will achieve as a whole in this celebration of the 500 years.

The archaeological park with an artistic development that did not have it by any group originally from the American Continent, is a sign of that culture of the first settlers, "so I feel pleased to sign this convention despite the limitations that have come from the pandemic," she emphasized.

Aguilar Navarro, committed to have with his specialists from the Cultural Heritage Section, especially with his team of restaurators the restoration of all pieces of religious art while at the same time continuing to work together to turn Natá into a cultural tourism centre.

Natah de los Knights was founded on May 20, 1522, and is the second oldest population on the Pacific American coast and the fifth one founded by Europeans throughout Continental America.

That's how this town was called, in honor of the nato cacique, that ruled the area where the village was located. And "the Knights" for the arrival of a hundred Spanish knights sent by the emperor Charles V.
