Four proposals submitted to the Bicentennial Commission

With the presentation of four proposals that together seek to strengthen knowledge about the evolution of the isthma to become the Republic and to pay tribute to outstanding figures from the 9th session of the National Commission of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Panama of Spain, chaired by the Minister of Culture, Carlos Aguilar Navarro.
The Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture propose to the Bicentennial Commission to launch the project "Panama: 200 Years in Chronicles ".
According to the proponents this proposal is an opportunity for "our youth" to write about the important historic event of the 200 years of Panama's independence from Spain on issues such as Dance, Gastronomy, Sport, Literature, Dance / Folklore and Independence.
The aim of the proposal is to highlight and visualise talent among students in the literature, as this contest will be open to middle- and middle- level students from government and private schools recognised by the Ministry of Education.
All participants will have access to "how to write a chronicle" workshops, dictated by Professor Carlos Fong, and offered by the Aduinga virtual platform.
Meanwhile, Víctor Betancourt, general manager of the company Sonda requested permission to print an important number of cards that are used at the Metro and at Metrobus with the logo of the bicentennial and with images from the colonial period.
The proponent recalled that special prints have been made with JMJ's theme about Panama's participation in the football world and Panama's 500-year Founding.
A number of other proposals have been put forward as an recognition to a group of national broadcasters and also to pay tribute to Panamanian officials from abroad at a virtual meeting with Commissioners Enrique De Obarrio and Griselda López.
At the meeting, the Commissioner of the National Police emphasized the readiness of the Security Institution to support all activities undertaken as part of the activities scheduled for the Bicentennial.
Opal de Icaza, co-ordinator of the Commission, gave to the Commissioners a report about the activities undertaken and outstanding, including the completion of the work "1821" by historian Alfredo Castillero Calvo, as well as the editing of other important literary proposals by Panamanian authors.
De Icaza also explained that with the daily La Estrella de Panama a special supplement about our history and also the start of the regressive account to get up to November 28 is being published every Thursday.
Also, Henry Gorgona, Director of Culture of the Municipality of San Miguelito also announced a number of activities that will be undertaken in what remains for the arrival of the date.
