In the framework of the Bicentennial of Panama's Independence of Spain, the Ministry of Culture opened the headquarters of the Association of Public Interest, referred to as "Center for Anthropological and Cultural Historical Research" (CIHAC AIP), at the office headquarters of Casco Antiguo (OCA).
For Marixa Lasso, Executive Director of this Centre, this is a space dedicated to the scientific study of Panamanian history, culture and cultural heritage with a view to promoting cultural rights, intercultural dialogue, sustainable development, knowledge of the past and the protection of Panamanian cultural heritage.
Lasso described this opening as "a special day because as well as opening this space we have introduced the first two plant researchers who have been chosen through a public call and by an international evaluating committee on their many academic merits."
He also emphasized that CIHAC AIP has two luxury researchers that are Dr. Tomas Mendizábal, an archaeologist, who will be in charge of research in archaeology and Dr. Samuel Robles, a musicologist, will have responsibility for research in musicology and folklore.
