Deputy Minister of Culture participates in the General Guna Cultural Congress

The deputy ministers of culture, Gabriel González, was invited by authorities of the region Guna Yala to participate in the General Congress of Culture in the community of Narbagandub Dummad with a view to concluding a cooperation agreement with a view to strengthening the culture and identity of the Gunadule people and to receiving assistance with the social projects and programs undertaken by the National Government and that will be of great assistance for the development of the inhabitants of this region of the country.

For his visit, the deputy ministers had been accompanied by a team from the National Folklore Office of the Ministry and during his intervention expressed his gratitude to the indigenous leaders and leaders of the general congresses that have allowed them to share with them and to share ideas about future projects in cultural matters, highlighting their custom and traditions.

The ministerial conference had an opportunity to witness the gunadule dance with the leadership of the General Congresses of Guna Yala and where representatives of the women known as Bundordan were also present and then moved to Gaigirgordub to get to know and inspect the status of the Guna Nation Museum currently undergoing rehabilitation with the support of the Ministry of Culture.

According to the members of the congress, with the visit of the Vice Minister of Culture, Gabriel González intended to sign the convention at his next session, to be held from 22 to 28 July 2021, in the Assudub community.

"At this meeting together with caciques from different communities that come to the General Congress we organize and advance ourselves with the agreement we will have with them, from the Ministry of Culture it's important to be able to promote this kind of opportunities and bridges in culture, to see what we can do as tourism, places like this (the museum), to observe traditions and cultural identities and to make sure that all these things are valuable to us," remarked Gabriel González.

The Vice Minister of Culture added that "it was very important for us to come and see that construction (museum) is a little destroyed and new material is necessary to be a place to be visited."

The National Government, through its various entities, joins with its commitment to indigenous peoples with an aim of development that will be consistent with culture and with tradition and that will preserve their customs and essence. Thus, MiCultura and its administrative units conduct a number of approaches to their concerns and to assist them to enhance and promote their customs and traditions.
