Advances Reina Torres Museum of Araúz

Panama, 8 April 2021.With 6.5% progress are the works of Reina Torres de Araúz Museum, project to restore the old main railway station building, work by Consorcio CEN, Museo Marta with an amount of 14.7 million, financed with funds from the Inter-American Development Bank (BID).
For Anayansi Chichaca National Director of Museums of the Ministry of Culture "the intention itself is to put the value of this museum that's 24 years old closed to the public and that there's a complete generation that has been unable to see all the cultural heritage we have in Panama, ready for Panamanian people to be proud of this national monument."
The conservation and restoration actions of this museum include four permanent display rooms and two temporary display rooms, auditorium, two cafes, "souvenirs" shops, elevators that meet with universal accessibility, urbanization of the environment, a special maintenance building to maintain the preserved pieces and the new museography that is the last part of this renewal.
The Special Retirement Building will be built with about 15,000 pieces and will house the most important collection of pieces in our country, this building looks for, keeps to get and keeps each of the valuable pieces so that they aren't worn out with time, and this place will continue with research and serve as a place to restore pieces. The museum will have a room dedicated to Dr. Reina Torres de Araúz, where personal documents and items will be exhibited that will elevate his life as a professional and personal.
For architect Elizabeth Villarreal from the CEN consortium "we had a rather broken start, jobs have been started in October 2020, by quarantine we have been put to an end and we have been re-initiated in January 2021 and to date there have been no single case of Covid-19 within the project.
We are currently undergoing restoration by fissures, leaking, repairing tile cover and corrosion at the fences among others.
The idea of this project is to integrate the museum with the crafts market to make an interesting atmosphere and tour as a tourist product for visitors, added Villarreal.
The project includes a year of maintenance by the company once construction has been completed and civil works are scheduled to be completed in the final quarter of 2022.
