MiCultura shows performance 2020 to AMUPA members

Mayors from different districts at national level, grouped into the Association of Municipalities of Panama (AMUPA), participated in a virtual and face-to-face manner, with the presentation of the management report 2020 that MiCultura has been performing to several national organizations.

At this meeting they emphasized the importance of strengthening the framework convention for cultural cooperation signed in July 2020 between the cultural entity and AMUPA where both parties committed themselves to coordinating actions for the promotion, development, implementation and implementation of programs, projects and activities of an artistic, cultural and educational nature and technical assistance of mutual interest.

That meeting is very significant, because mayors are a vital part of all the work that we as a ministry and as a government wish to conduct in cultural matters.

In the first few months as the ministry was newly established, you embraced the idea of an agreement between both organizations to carry forward the plans and programs that are referred to in the governance plan of President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen and that we will develop according to the personality of each municipality, pontió Carlos Aguilar Navarro, Minister of Culture.

José Ismael Herrera, general secretary of MiCultura, stated that with this meeting today we reiterate our commitment to collaboration with them to carry out important projects and works and to involve them with different initiatives of this ministry so that municipalities and communal boards are linked to this type of community activities that have been advanced by the cultural entity.

The assistants agreed to enhance their communities' resources for better quality of life for their residents with the aim of viewing and achieving a path, a channel that supports MiCultura's intentions, which are framed within the objectives pursued by both sides, and will best achieve their respective roles by contributing to the enriching of national culture and the integral development of citizens.

"Panama has a great deal to do with culture with what at the level of municipalities we are always involved in cultural activities to preserve and rescue the customs and traditions of these regions, and so the work of local governments, especially municipalities, in developing and promoting culture in their communities," said Dicky Panay, Executive Director of AMUPA.
The meeting was attended by José Tristan, Mayor of the Bureau, Eric Domínguez, Mayor of Antón, Julio César Viviez, Mayor of Montijo, Nadine González, Mayor of Pinogana, Miguel Batista, Mayor of Pedasi and Dicky Panay and Executive Director of AMUPA among others.

While the MiCultura commission charged with illustrating those present as to the report was composed of Yesenia Sánchez, Special Projects Director at BID, Enrique Noel, Director of Cultural Rights and Citizenship, Marú Gálvez, National Director of Creative Economics.

That accountability forms part of the reports submitted to organizations, trade unions and different cultural sectors of our country that have been performing MiCultura to share plans and projects implemented by 2020.
