The Ministry of Culture, through its National Direction of Historical Heritage, participated in the "Cities with five centuries," "Reunion of Cities of the 16th Century, World Heritage" Forum that was held in a virtual manner as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the registration of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on the list of the World Heritage of the UNESCO.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic, who during their paper emphasized the origin and importance of their respective heritage sites, their universal, outstanding value and the criteria by which they were registered and their current and challenges as a World Heritage site.
Panama was represented at this forum by Katti OSorio Ugarte, national director of historic heritage, who developed the title: "The Archaeological Site of Old Panama and Historic District of Panama: News and challenges of the First European Foundation in the Litoral Pacific American."
Our country has been signed to the Regional Institute of World Heritage at Zacatecas, Category 2 Center at UNESCO - IRPMZ (CC2), one of eight Category 2 centers that cooperate with the UNESCO in the field of World Heritage, and was established to support the World Heritage Centre in promoting training and research activities to contribute to the implementation of the World Heritage Convention in the region of Central America and the Caribbean.
Katti OSorio Ugarte stated that participation at this event promotes regional cooperation in the exchange of experiences with world heritage management, the dissemination of good practice and the construction of capacities to strengthen the protection and safeguard of these cultural and historic heritage that are the legacy of our peoples' common past.
