MiCultura delivers 30 thousand books to Plan Colmena

Panama, 27 November 2020.-Some 30 thousand works by outstanding Panamanian writers will be delivered at more than 240 reading points located at cordments with multidimensional poverty indices of the country as part of the first phase of the National Government's Colmena Plan.

About 12,000 copies of Panamanian writers will be submitted by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), in its initial phase to the Colmena Plan project run by the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES), in an intersectional manner with other state institutions, an initiative by President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen's government.

The training will be organized by the Cultural Rights and Citizenship Section through its department of book and reading, who will be charged with giving training workshops at different challenges and will be directed to community leaders who will be a custodian and multiplier of their use and good use.

For Carlos Fong, an entity's reading promoter, workshops will be held to train voluntary personnel who will care about the collection and work with focused reading for children, youth and adults and basic training to conduct actions such as high-level reading, group reading, reading circles and creative workshops in co-ordination with our regional centers to monitor the program.

"To this end different cultural spaces will be used as: communal houses and cultural houses will be organized with the aim that the community will have an approach to books and reading," Fong added.

The aim of the Colmena Plan is to organize the comprehensive implementation of public policy with a cross-cutting and intersectional offer that guarantees to the public the right to development.
