Panama, September 30, 2020.-The National Assembly's Commission for Education, Culture and Sport had first adopted the General Act on Culture.

Following an extensive and participatory debate of the fourth and final bloc, Members unanimously validated the more than 225 articles that make up this project.

Carlos Aguilar Navarro, Minister of Culture, explained that the last block put forward the creation of a contestable fund for all artists and Panamanian cultural expressions.

That contestable fund will allow writers, dancers and musicians among other artists to fully engage in the development and implementation of their proposal or project.

"We are considering having this non-reimbursable fund of about 5 million balboas, that by the end of the pandemic will not be by 2021, but that by 2022 we aspires to be part of the budget of the ministry," emphasized Aguilar Navarro.

The incumbent of Panamanian culture expects that the decision of the Members will be favourable at the second debate so that MiCultura will have the necessary departure within its intended place to carry out all assistance to our artists and the implementation of all cultural, heritage and other projects that fall under the responsibility of the cultural entity.
