Advancement of a strategic agenda for cultural cooperation Colombia - Panama

The Ministries of Culture of Panama and Colombia are developing a schedule of virtual exchanges to advance a technical cooperation work agenda with a focus on heritage, territorial cultural management, creative economy and museums.

The Colombian ministry's team shares its technical cooperation experiences through a planned bilateral work plan with the aim of contributing to the cultural institution built by MiCultura in Panama.

The cooperation agenda includes technical assistance with training in the structured institutional processes, territorial cultural management and strategies for the development of museums with the aim of strengthening institutional capacities for focused strategic and administrative planning, an integrated vision of cultural heritage and creative economy and an accompaniment to the plan of intervention of the Creative District of Panama City.

The Minister of Culture, Carlos Aguilar Navarro, expressed his appreciation for the support of the technical team of the neighbouring countries in this exchange and highlighted the efforts of the two countries as a whole to maintain partnership with the sustainable development goals that have been built with shared cultural views within the region.

For her part, Colombia's Minister of Culture, Carmen Inés Vásquez Camacho, in the context of this technical cooperation, explained that an important bilateral programme of work was advanced that allowed us to continue to support the consolidation of the Ministry of Culture, which last August 15 celebrated its first anniversary of its creation.

The technical cooperation agenda between the two countries began to be planned in September 2019 with the commitment of Colombian president Ivan Duque with President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen to provide the necessary mutual support for the organizational constitution of the Panamanian cultural ministry.

Also, during October last year, the two ministries of culture signed a memorandum of understanding on strengthening cultural cooperation that put forward at its initial stage the identification of priority points on the work agenda to be developed.
