MiCultura attests to 80 artisan from Emberá Wounaan communities

Panama, September 20, 2020.-Eighteen artisan from the La Purú Emberá community, located at the banks of the Chagres River, were formally accredited by the Ministry of Culture through the National Handicraft Management.
The group of women emberá Wounaan that produces, sells and exhibits crafts within their communities, was cared for by the MiCultura team that moved to the community, where they did face-to-face attestations and were provided with their craft identification cards.
Jaime Luna, National Handicraft Director of MiCultura, explained that this activity has as its fundamental aim to get the handicraft registration to reach all communities.
"For more than 40 years these women have been less visible and for the first time we have been cooperating with them to have the group of artisan emberates get all the benefits that the Ministry of Culture offers, through solidarity aids, virtual fairs and specific discounts for the artisan sector, among others," remarked Luna.
With these initiatives, training in technologies and entrepreneurship and with virtual catalogs and virtual applications are expected to be available so that all crafts can put their products at an international level.
The crafts management team initiated the program of accreditation of indigenous crafts in this community and it is hoped that they will be able to reach all areas with difficult access to dignify and empower our artisan women.
The criteria for obtaining an Artisanal Identification card include: be of Panamanian nationality, copies of personal identification card, certification of residence (conduct at the Electoral Tribunal), 3 carnet-size photos and demonstration of the crafts that they produce (have to bring their own materials).
