MiCultura recognizes contribution to national painting of Maestro Mayo Hassan

Panama, 19 May 2020 -The Ministry of Culture recognized the outstanding contribution of Master Mayo Hassan, cataloging him as an indispensable creator of Panamanian plastic.

The artistic community of the country regrets the departure of an outstanding artist who was a great fan of his habitual theme, especially his typical suit and his psitoric muses are the ladies who with his grace and elegance put an end to his apron and to his pollera.

Carlos Aguilar Navarro, Minister of Culture, emphasized that "the history of Panamanian painting of the last few decades isn't conceived without the talent of necessary men as teacher teacher Don Mayo Hassan."

I describe as a gentleman of the plastic and a person who has always collaborated with anyone who wished to learn about colors and forms, Hassan communicated with the world from his picket, his cake and his oil.

For his part, Daniel Domínguez, National Director of the Arts of MiCultura, expressed that "in these times of pandemic and famines, of authoritarian populisms and social inequalities, art represented in figure as Mayo Hassan remains an opportunity for us to lose hope and to lose faith in human beings."

Born in Panama City, Mayo Hassan learned his drawing and painting at the School of Plastic Arts. His teachers were Juan Manuel Cedeño and Amalia and Juan B. Jeanine.

In February of this year, the cultural entity paid a tribute to the painter for his more than 50 years of his career with an exhibition of 40 of his works at the Juan Manuel Cedeño Gallery and with his family, friends and representatives of the national plastic.

He was greatly moved and expressed his satisfaction with an interesting display of his works that his master and his master have been reminded of.

"I have always dreamed of an exhibition of myself at one of these vaults. Thanks to the Minister and especially to another of my dreams, it was that Panama had a Ministry of Culture and today it's possible. To see my works - and some I thought did not exist - gives me much joy and more desire to feel painting," she said.

It was for several years, president of the Association of Plastic Artists of Panama. Since 1980, Hassan has been presenting his talent in his land as well as in his Dominican Republic, Colombia, Israel, Japan, Cuba, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico, Portugal and Venezuela as well.
