MiCultura celebrates International Museum Day

Panama, May 15, 2020. The Ministry of Culture joins with the celebration of the International Day of Museums, reflecting on the role of museums as agents of education and social integration for all, with the motto "Museums for equality: diversity and inclusion," with an emphasis on meeting with our public at the stage of the new normality after Covio-19.

Aguilar Navarro recognized that this year has been of great challenges, challenges and opportunities for the museums of Panama and the World, so, through the study and exposure of objects of value related to science and art as well as culturally important articles for the development of our knowledge, we transmit the encounter with history to familiarize ourselves with what we have been and are as a society.

"Museums are spaces of conservation and public access that show our heritage through objects that testify our material and immaterial heritage, our environment, culture and the environment," stated Minister Aguilar Navarro.

For his part, Gabriel González, Vice Minister of Culture, called for innovation through the processes of virtualizing knowledge at these times of change, to give our museum professionals an opportunity to meet with the visiting public and to raise awareness about challenges so that these spaces are inclusive and accessible to all Panamanian and Panamanian people from their on-site visits as well as to the virtual tours we offer as a cultural sector.

"These challenges lead us to propose strategies that will be applied to our centers to achieve the goals of integration, using the technological tools at our disposal and thus visualizing our museographic contents," González remarked.

That's why, from the Ministry of Culture, the institution joins the world's celebration by inviting us to visit each of these spaces today in a virtual way and to get to know that interesting world that museums tell us through their collections.

Culture is an axis of social transformation and museums contribute to enriching the changes we need to have a better world.
