Writer Moravia Ochoa receives Rogelio Sinan decoration

Panama, 25 April 2020. The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and the National Board of Writers and Writers of Panama have announced that this year's writer Morava Ochoa receives the Rogelio Sinan Award, awarded to a distinguished author for the literary and human merits of an entire lifetime, in celebration of the day of the complainant and the Panamanian writer.

On 25 April of every year, this date was expressed in Panama in honor of Bernardo Domínguez Alba, best known as Rogelio Sinan, who was born on the island of Taboga on 25 April 1902 and died in Panama City on 4 October 1994 and in recognition of the literary path of a national writer or writer for his great contribution to national culture.

Carlos Aguilar Navarro, Minister of Culture, explained that this great literary merit honors the work and dedication of the winner of the Ricardo Miró prize, Moravia Ochoa, for his dedicated letter and his love and commitment to the Homeland.

The National Council of Writers and Writers of Panama, composed of representatives from the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, the University of Panama, the Universidad especializado de las Américas, the Panamanian Academy of Language, the Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí (UNACHI), the Universidad Tecnologia de Panama, the Universidad Santa María La Antigua and the Fundación Biblioteca Nacional, are the body with responsibility for appointing the prize-winner every two years.

Moravia Ochoa was an educator and Licensed in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Panama. At his age 17, she earned the first national prize for Ricardo Miró literature, in the poetry section, with his work The Primordial Roots. Then, in 1960, she earned his first prize for this same contest, with his work Yesca and in 1964, she received an honorary reference to the Ricardo Miró Literature Competition, and his work The Mirrors.

In 2012, she earned first place at the Poesia Section at the XXXII National Labour Art Competition 2012 from the IPEL National Awards Competition, sponsored by the Panamanian Institute of Labour Studies, IPEL, of the Ministry of Labour and Labour Development.

His poetic work is completed by the works "Cuordas" on your voice as an infinite alba (1960, where they transport rivers (1967), Circules and planets (1975), "To do war" means to go with everything (1978), "To be a little alive" (1975), "To be a woman" (1984), "To count naked" (2000), "The grace of the archangel" (2005) and "The Immaculate House" (2005).

His work as a storyteller was integrated by the Books The Mirrors (1968), Juan Garzzo goes to war (1992), In his trap and other unpublished versions (1997) and The Areas of Travel (2005).

Ochoa appears in different poetic antiologies. Stories and poems of his have been translated into English and Polish, among other languages. He's a great fan of the literature made by Demetrio Kursi and Ricardo Miró in Panama and outside our boundaries are leaned by figures such as Rubén Darius and Pablo Neruda, among others.

In the history of the décor Rogelio Sinan have been distinguished great representatives of our literature, among them Elsie Alvarado de Ricord, Guillermo Sánchez Borbón, Carlos Francisco Changmarín, Pedro Rivera, Demetrio Fábrega, Álvaro Menéndez Franco, César Young Núñez, José Franco and Justo Arroyo.

The precise date at which the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, will give this recognition as indicated by the executive law that creates this distinction will soon be published.
