Ministry of Culture closely links with Dominican Republic

Panama 4 February 2020. The Minister of Culture, Carlos Aguilar Navarro, undertook a work visit to Dominican Republic and held meetings with important authorities of cultural entities in that country.

Minister Aguilar and his Dominican counterpart, Eduardo Selman, met to discuss and exchange experiences about different issues about heritage, highlighting examples and conservation plans of the colonial city of Dominican, both coinciding with the state's intervention in projects of social interest to safeguard the human heritage of heritage sites.

The meetings of the head of the Panamanian cultural portfolio included an encounter with Dominican directives Yveth Marichal, director of DGCINE (General Cinema Management) and Fiora Cruz Carretero, Director of National Cinemateca, to get to know about the success for ten years that Dominican Republic has had in production of more than 190 films, as well as the idea for a Panamanian film and the possibilities of generating some co-production projects as a whole.

The head of Panama's cultural portfolio was also received by the Mayor of Santo Domingo and David Collado, with his aim to discuss and exchange valuable ideas to achieve a number of cultural initiatives with a view to strengthening and enriching the cultural offer between both countries.

Pablo J. Pérez, Panama's ambassador to the Dominican Republic and Luis Romero, a Panamanian filmmaker, accompanied Minister Carlos Aguilar during his meetings.
