Thirteen companies interested in bidding visit San Lorenzo fort

Some thirteen companies specialized in the restoration of property expressed their interest in participating in public bidding for the recovery of San Lorenzo Castle from Chagres District in Colón Province.
The representatives of the companies undertook a field visit to the project's site to have information about the phases of the restoration project that includes the construction of general maintenance and civil works, the studies, development and approval of construction plans and the operation of emergency measures and the approval of construction plans and construction of supplementary works.
The international public tender has been published on the Panama Purchase digital portal, in the Section Other Public Procurement.
It was reported that a next meeting will be held next October 29, 2019 at 10: 00 a.m. at the Anel Omar Rodriguez Reunion Hall, a headquarters building of the Ministry of Culture to absolve and clarify all consultations and comments by the proponents.
The opening of proposals will also be held on 26 November at the headquarters building of the Ministry of Culture.
The San Lorenzo Castle of Chagres forms part of the world heritage, listed as the World Heritage of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Cultural and Natural World Heritage in 1980 and entered the World Heritage List at Danger in 2012, where it remains.
For the Minister of Culture, Carlos Aguilar, the Panamanian State makes efforts to recover, restore and stabilise this imposing fortification, which was a vital part of the defenses of the Isthmus of Panama, specifically from the mouth of the Chagres River that was the river area of the Way of Cruces during the Spanish colonial period.
The castle of San Lorenzo The Royal of Chagres was built from 1575 to 1768 and was undergoing extensive adaptation under Spanish military strategy adapted to Panamanian tropical conditions.
The Ministry of Culture through the National Directorate of Historical Heritage currently guarantees the protection of this castle as a historic monument by Act 68 of 1941. The Portobelo and San Lorenzo are supported by the Government's management of these monuments.
