China's National Government and Community in Panama Announce Spring Festival Activities, Chinese New Year 2023 - Rabbit's Year

The National Government of Panama, the Government of the People's Republic of China in Panama and the National Council of China's Ethnic Church in Panama announced the activities for the Spring Festival, commemorates Chinese New Year 2023 (Year of the Rabbit) and for the second consecutive year with the status of a country event, said Giselle González, Minister of Culture.

He noted that since his migration to our country by the first members of the Chinese community in 1850 to work with the construction of the railway, they have been leaping their jobs and respect to a powerful community that has shared their culture with all ethnic groups in society.

During the press conference it was explained that by 2023, the celebration of the country event will start with the Chinese New Year's Festivals on the weekend of Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January, to be held at the 4th Centennial Park at Casco Antiguo of Panama City and simultaneously at different locations of the country as part of the Spring Festival.

The cities of David, Santiago, Aguadulce, Penonomé, Natá, Bocas del Toro, the Azuero Peninsula and West Panama will join with other parts of the national territory, thanks to the efforts of different Chinese associations and with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Panama. The approach to economic recovery will be reflected in Expo Auto and multiple activations at different commercial centers throughout the country.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism, Ivan Eskildsen, detailed that the Chinese new year 2022 attended about 75 thousand people, of whom 25 thousand met at the Centennial Park and 500 000 at different points, with a view to strengthening Panama's wealth and cultural diversity.

Carlos Liu, Secretary General of the Chinese Ethnic Council (CONECHI), noted that since the first edition of the Spring Festival of 2022, we have been able to achieve all the objectives put forward in terms of economic recovery, tourism and cultural inputs.

The Cultural and Educational Secretary of the Chinese People's Republic Embassy in Panama, Jin Liang expressed his complacency and emphasized Panama's international outreach as one of the first countries to adopt China's New Year as a country event.

The Social Development Minister, María Inés Castillo, was also present and congratulated the Chinese and Panamanian authorities for enabling them to promote the culture of the Chinese ethnicity Panama. He concluded with the presentation of the lion's dance run by Fa Yen Society of Panama.
